Imagine you run a small photography studio and want clients to book and pay for a session in one step, without sending them to a separate checkout page. With the Stripe integration, you connect your Stripe account to IvyForms once, add a payment field to your booking form, and card payments are collected right inside the form. This article explains how to enable the integration, connect your Stripe account, and set up the Payment Method field.
The Stripe integration is available in the Essentials plan of IvyForms and higher. It requires IvyForms Pro to be installed and activated alongside the free IvyForms plugin.
To connect Stripe, your website must be publicly accessible with a valid domain, and you need a Stripe account (you can create one during the connection process). Stripe connections are not supported on local or localhost installations because Stripe needs a publicly reachable URL to send payment updates back to your site. Live payments also require your site to be served over HTTPS.
If you are building your site locally, you will not be able to connect Stripe until the site is moved to a live server with a public domain.
You enable Stripe in IvyForms → Integrations by turning on the toggle next to Stripe. Until it is enabled, the Stripe card shows a Learn more button. As soon as you switch it on, you are taken straight to the Stripe settings, and the button on the card changes to Go to settings so you can get back there quickly later.
Connect your account in IvyForms → Settings → Payments → Stripe by clicking the Connect with Stripe button. This opens a Stripe page where you enter your email address and click Continue. If you already have a Stripe account, use the same email address and log in to connect it. If you don’t, Stripe walks you through creating a new one.
On the Stripe page, you will see the name of the company behind the IvyForms connection and a short note that it uses Stripe for secure payments. This is Stripe’s standard screen for connected platforms, and it is shown to everyone who connects. Creating, verifying, and activating your Stripe account is handled entirely by Stripe, so any issues with the account itself should go to Stripe support.
After the connection is complete, you are returned to IvyForms → Settings → Payments → Stripe, where your connected account details are displayed. The Account name, Currency, and Account ID fields are read-only and cannot be edited in IvyForms. Below them, you will find the Switch account and Disconnect Stripe buttons.
You switch accounts by clicking Switch account, which starts the Stripe connection process again so you can log in with, or create, a different Stripe account. Once connected, the new account replaces the previous one on your site.
You disconnect Stripe by clicking Disconnect Stripe, which removes the connection from your site. Forms that use the Payment Method field will no longer be able to take Stripe payments until you connect an account again. If access is removed from the Stripe side instead, IvyForms detects it, shows a warning that Stripe is disconnected, and sends an email to the site administrator.
You add the field from the form builder by opening the Add field tab, expanding the Payment section, and clicking Payment Method. This section also contains the Product, Quantity, and Total fields; the amount charged is calculated from the Product and Quantity fields, so a Product field must be selected and the Quantity field must be linked to it.
IvyForms does not add tax or shipping on its own, so if they apply, mention them in the description of the relevant fields. Once the field is added, select it in the preview to open its configuration options.
Selecting the field opens the Options view, where the settings are organized into three tabs: General, Advanced, and Smart logic. These control how the field is labeled, which payment provider it uses, and when it is shown.
The General tab shows the field name and its ID, followed by the core options for the field.
The Advanced tab is currently empty for the Payment Method field, so there is nothing to configure there. Layout and appearance can be adjusted through the form’s Style tab or with custom CSS classes.
The Smart logic tab lets you show or hide the Payment Method field based on conditions from other inputs in the form. Once enabled, you define rules that decide when the field is displayed, and the Conditional match setting controls how those rules are evaluated.
For example, you can show the payment field only when a visitor selects a paid service, and hide it for free options. For more details on conditions and values, see the conditional logic documentation.
You configure Stripe for an individual form in the form’s Settings tab, under Integrations → Stripe. The global connection gives IvyForms access to your Stripe account, and these settings control how each form uses it. Click Save when you are done, or Clear settings to reset the panel.
On the front end, the Payment Method field displays a secure card form with Card number, Expiration date, CVV, and Postal code inputs. The card inputs are provided by Stripe, so card details are sent to Stripe directly and are never stored on your site.
When a customer submits the form, IvyForms validates the form first and then charges the card through Stripe. If the payment succeeds, the entry is created, and the payment is recorded. If the customer’s bank asks for extra verification (3D Secure), the customer is prompted to complete it before the form is submitted. If the card is declined or invalid, the payment is rejected, the form can’t be submitted, and no entry is created.
Payments from your forms are listed in IvyForms → Payments. For details on searching, filtering, and exporting them, see the Payments documentation.
The Stripe integration works with your live Stripe account, so every successful payment is a real charge. Connect Stripe only on a public, HTTPS-enabled site, and check that the Stripe account is fully activated before publishing a payment form, since incomplete accounts can’t process payments.
