Every December, the WordPress community comes together for something a little different. It’s a moment to slow down, look beyond launches and deadlines, and focus on what really matters: kindness, generosity, and helping others.
Now in its 6th year, WordPress Gives a Hand has become a heartfelt tradition within the ecosystem. It reminds us that WordPress isn’t just a collection of tools and businesses; it’s a global community of people who care about one another and the world around them.
No matter if you’re a small business owner, a freelancer, or a website creator, there’s always a place for you in this movement.
A Holiday Tradition of Giving
WordPress Gives a Hand isn’t about discounts or promotions. It’s about showing up for one another.
The initiative began when members of the WordPress community wanted to use the holiday season for something more meaningful. Instead of focusing on sales, they chose to give back by donating a portion of their revenue to charity and invited others to do the same.
What started as a simple idea quickly grew into a shared tradition. Each December, creators, businesses, and users come together with one goal: to turn collective goodwill into real-world impact.
Why Giving Back Matters for Small Businesses
Giving back doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful.
For small businesses, even the simplest actions can make a difference. Donating a percentage of sales, encouraging customers to participate, or creating sign-up forms for local or global causes. Every contribution, no matter the size, becomes part of something bigger.
More than that, giving back helps build stronger connections. It brings businesses closer to their customers, strengthens relationships within the community, and reflects values like care, responsibility, and empathy — the things that truly last beyond the holidays.
How the Initiative Works
Participating in WordPress Gives a Hand is easy. Here’s how anyone can join:
- Apply to join the WordPress Gives a Hand initiative and officially become part of the movement.
- Pick a charity or cause that matters to you. It could be supporting children, animals, the environment, or urgent humanitarian needs.
- Share your participation publicly using the #WPGivesAHand hashtag on social media, blogs, or newsletters.
- Encourage others to join by reposting, sharing, or highlighting other participants.
These small steps, taken together, create a powerful ripple effect, which is proof that community-driven actions truly add up.
Our Participation
This year, we’re proud to donate 10% of all sales between December 22–28 to charity.
We see this as more than a donation. It’s a chance to contribute in a thoughtful, human way, where every purchase, every share, and every act of support helps create something meaningful.
Together, We Make an Impact
WordPress Gives a Hand is a reminder of why this community works so well: because people care.
It’s not about numbers or visibility. It’s about showing up, supporting causes that matter, and helping one another when it counts most.
This December, let’s focus on kindness, collaboration, and generosity. By participating, sharing, and inspiring others, we can show that the WordPress community isn’t just about building websites — it’s about building a better world, one action at a time. 💚
